Technical SEE (Level 3)

NAPCA is looking for a senior 55 years of age or older (PL-98-313) to work under the Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program, for the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the Office of Research & Development (ORD)/National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (NHEERL)/Integrated Systems Toxicology Division in Research Triangle Park, NC.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Maintain a number of cell lines including passaging, counting, and freezing (15%)
  • Treat cells with chemicals at precise concentrations (15%)
  • Transfect cells with siRNAs targeted to specific genes (15%)
  • Carry out methods to evaluate gene expression which could include RNA-Seq, targeted RNA-Seq, or RT-PCR (15%)
  • Isolate RNA from the cells including determination of quantity and quality (10%)
  • Evaluate cytotoxicity after chemical exposure (10%)
  • Measure protein expression using protein-specific antibodies (10%)
  • Analysis of data including gene expression profiles (10%)


  • 55 years of age or older
  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS/BA), Master’s Degree or PhD in Toxicology
  • Have at least ten (10) years of experience in cell culture, gene expression analysis, isolation of RNA and protein, evaluation of gene expression, evaluation of cytotoxicity, measurement of protein expression
  • Knowledge of Windows operating system and use of business machines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Desired candidate should have co-authored at least 20 published primary research articles that demonstrate proficiency in the skills listed under the primary responsibilities
