Feiming Tan

Classroom aide, Chinese American Service League, Chicago, IL

Feiming Tan emigrated from mainland China. With experience from China, she worked in the foodservice industry for many years in Chicago. After she lost her job in 2013, she applied for the SCSEP(Senior Community Service Employment  Program) of Chicago project in Cook County. When Feiming first enrolled  in the SCSEP, she was assigned to the Meal Site operated by the Chinese  American Service League(CASL). She was able to learn more skills in food services.

Meanwhile, during the employment plan session, she expressed her interest in working with the children. After two years, she was transferred to the childcare program of CASL.  Her new job duties were conducting fun and engaging activities, serving  food and snacks, and cleaning the classroom for the children. She worked very hard and showed her genuine care for the children. After completing her training assignment through SCSEP, she was hired by CASL’s childcare program as a classroom aide. Feiming is excited that she found an opportunity which she enjoys and feels fulfilled.
