This story is from a current enrollee in NAPCA’s Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) program in Chicago, Illinois.
Sarah Kim came to the United States from South Korea. With the pharmacy degree and experience in the hospital, she was able to open the pharmacy. In 1972, she decided to move to the United States through her family member. With limited English skills, Sarah first experienced cultural shock in Michigan. A few years later, standing alone with her kids, she moved to Chicago to work for her friend’s company. After few months, Sarah received an application from NAPCA. Soon after, in 1998, she enrolled in the Senior Environmental Employment(SEE) program, and since then, she has been with EPA for 20 years as a financial assistant.
