Continuing Education Conducted for the First Time Online Lauded a Success
NAPCA’s SCSEP Leadership team facilitated engaging workshops on program policies and procedures and project sites highlighted their best practices related to employment placement with host agency partners (Boston), On-the-Job Experience partnerships with private corporations (Los Angeles), and leveraging resources to bridge the digital divide (Sacramento). Guest presenters provided informative workshops on Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income (Kirk Larson; Social Security Administration) and mental health concerns for seniors during COVID-19 (Marcia Haynes-Cody, RN; Whitecrane Wellness Center).
Over the past 18+ months, NAPCA SCSEP project staff have coached program participants through their social isolation, fear of the pandemic and the violent anti-Asian attacks that have occurred nationwide. Due to the pandemic, NAPCA project sites have had to dramatically adapt their in-person services while maintaining a tireless dedication to our SCSEP participants to ensure their needs were being supported and met. In addition to the employment and career coaching provided through the program, NAPCA SCSEP project staff helped participant connect to life-saving vaccines, facilitated deliveries of essential food and supplies, and conducted hours of one-on-one wellbeing checks of program participants.
Lunch was provided to all remote training attendees through a donation from Door Dash. Everyone was given credits through the app and encouraged to order from their favorite local Asian restaurant to support small businesses. NAPCA is honored to serve its elders through the following SCSEP project site locations:

NAPCA SCSEP leadership called the National Training a success despite the challenges of doing it remotely. The virtual meeting ended with attendees maintaining the year-end tradition of wishing each other a happy holiday season and a prosperous New Year.
