SCSEP: Senior Community Service Employment Program
SCSEP is the largest federally-funded program specifically targeting older adults seeking employment and training assistance.
The goal of SCSEP is to help participants gain work experience and overcome barriers by receiving on-the-job training at not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) community based organizations or government agencies. The dual purpose of the SCSEP program is to provide community service while also improving participants’ job skills to enable them to find full or part-time unsubsidized employment.
Nationally, NAPCA serves over 1,200 older workers through the SCSEP program annually. In 2016, NAPCA SCSEP participants contributed over 600,000 hours to our community through their community services.
Individuals that are selected will get assigned to a host agency (non-profit or governmental agency) where they will be provided supervision and training. Participants will be allowed to work part time for up to 20 hours a week and will be paid the state or federal minimum wage. Periodic individual employment plans and assessments will be conducted to provide further assistance to the participants. Skills learned through the host agency and training sessions will be useful in assisting participants to transition into unsubsidized employment.
SEE: Senior Environmental Employment Program
The SEE Program assists the Environmental Protection Agency and other federal, state, and local agencies in meeting their environmental mandates by using the talents and experience of workers 55 years of age and older.
In the 1970’s, farsighted EPA staff recognized that experienced workers aged 55 and over were extremely underrated. As a result, the EPA created the concept of what was to become a national showcase for the skills of mid-career and older professionals who are now acknowledged as major players in a rapidly aging society.
Enrollees increase their technical skills, access new training opportunities, and take on meaningful tasks to contribute to the environment and to their own financial well-being. The SEE Program links federal, state, and local agencies with professionals 55 and over in administrative and support positions that range from clerical to scientific and field positions.
NAPCA matches seasoned professionals with government agencies nationwide from three field offices, located in Washington, D.C.; Chicago, Illinois; and Seattle, Washington.
