This pilot study investigated economic readiness for retirement among low-income older Asian adults. Data was collected from 150 participants of the Senior Community Service Employment Program, also referred to as SCSEP, an employment and training program for low-income older adults. Participants were surveyed for the study in three locations: Los Angeles, Orange County, CA, and New York City.

Major findings included:

  1. NAPCA SCSEP participants have very low levels of financial literacy;
  2. Asset ownership rates are generally low among NAPCA SCSEP participants; and
  3. Financial capacity and asset ownership differ across ethnic groups.
