Julie J.L. Cheng

SECRETARY

Julie Cheng, Esq., is the principal and founder of New Bamboo Consulting (New Bamboo), which specializes in operational development: strategic planning, corporate and intellectual property strategy, portfolio management, contracts management, business development, alliance management and executive coaching. New Bamboo’s focus is on start-ups and non-profits. Prior to starting New Bamboo, Ms. Cheng spent more than four years as the General Counsel & VP Business Development at the Institute for OneWorld Health (iOWH), where she oversaw all of iOWH’s legal matters and was responsible for business development including setting up key partnerships among iOWH, academia and pharmaceutical companies in various disease areas. Before joining iOWH, she spent almost seven years with Bayer HealthCare, with her last position being Assistant General Counsel, responsible for all legal work for the Biologics Division. Her legal experience has primarily been in the corporate world, including working at the Rohm and Haas Company, FMC Corporation and Alcon Laboratories Inc.

Ms. Cheng has been active in many community and non-profit organizations, including helping to create the Alameda Community Sailing Center (ACSC), and participating on the boards of ACSC, the Oakland Yacht Club, the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), the NAPABA Law Foundation and the Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia. She has worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, West Texas Legal Services and the AIDS Outreach Center, and is a former member of the ABA Special Committee on Bioethics and the Law.

Ms. Cheng has a JD from Franklin Pierce Law Center (now the University of New Hampshire Law School) and a BA in Chemistry from Reed College.
