SSI (Supplemental Security Income) & SSP (State Supplementary Payment) – Income assistance
—
SSI is a federal program that provides monthly payments to people with limited income and resources who are 65 or older, blind, or disabled to help with basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter. Some states provide an additional payment, called SSP (Supplemental Security Payment), to supplement the federal SSI benefit. SSP eligibility, payment amounts, and application procedures vary by state. SSI payment amounts and federal income and resource limits are generally updated each year, while SSP amounts and rules may also change based on state requirements.

What is SNAP?

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
is a federal program that helps eligible low-income households pay for food. Eligibility is based on factors such as household income, resources, household size, and other requirements, which may vary by state. Income and resource limits are generally updated each year. If approved, SNAP benefits are loaded monthly onto an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, which can be used like a debit card at authorized retailers to buy eligible food. Some adults receiving SNAP may be required to work or participate in qualifying activities to receive or continue receiving benefits, unless they qualify for an exemption. Federal law expanded these requirements beginning in 2026.
Where to Apply
Apply for SNAP through the state or local agency in the state where you live. States may also offer SNAP Employment and Training (E&T) programs that provide employment, education, training, or other support.
