Seattle — On Friday, October 3, the National Asian Pacific Center on Aging (NAPCA), in partnership with IDIC Filipino Senior & Family Services, Kroger, and the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC), welcomed more than 200 community members to the Seattle Open Enrollment and Vaccination Event. Since 2022, the community health event provides elders, caregivers, and families with vital updates on Medicare and social benefit programs, as well as on-site flu, COVID-19, and other vaccinations. Over 4,500 vaccines have been administered throughout these events.

“Vaccines remain one of the most important safeguards against COVID-19 and other illnesses,” said Clayton Fong, President and CEO of the National Asian Pacific Center on Aging. “We are especially glad to partner with Kroger/QFC to offer critical vaccines to protect our elders and their loved ones.”

Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal and Washington State Insurance Commissioner Patty Kuderer attended the event and shared remarks with the elders. Fong expressed appreciation for Congresswoman Jayapal’s unwavering support for AANHPI elders and welcomed the new collaboration with OIC, which has advanced language access through its Medicare toolkit available in 17 languages. Representatives from Senator Maria Cantwell’s and Congressman Adam Smith’s offices were also in attendance.

The event also highlighted Medicare Open Enrollment, which is an important moment to review coverage options and ensure older adults’ health care coverage meets their needs for the year ahead. With multilingual staff and volunteers, community members were guided through Medicare Part D Extra Help, Medicaid, SNAP, and LIHEAP, receiving culturally and linguistically appropriate support.

NAPCA is also proud to partner with the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner this fall to support Medicare enrollment. For community members who were unable to attend the event, free multilingual counseling and enrollment assistance for Medicare, benefits, and more are available through NAPCA’s Multilingual Helpline. With Medicare Open Enrollment taking place from October 15 to December 7, 2025, now is the time to review your options and ensure you have the coverage that best meets your needs.
